Super Scientist

Congratulations to all those students who have presented their Super Science Presentations so far. I have been very impressed with the quality of the investigations demonstrated. The students have been confident in their delivery and knowledgeable with their understanding of Science concepts. Thank you to all the parents who have encouraged the students and helped with the organisation and planning. I look forward to seeing the last group tomorrow.

Designing Playgrounds

Room 26 have had a couple of very exciting and interesting Tuesdays. Last week we spent the day analysing playgrounds. We looked at the purpose of playgrounds, how they have changed over the last 100 years, the safety aspects and materials used to make playgrounds. We spent a long time comparing photos, learning about different materials used and why, and researching what makes the best playground. The research part was fun. We got to try out the different playgrounds around our school and interviewing students to see what they like best. Did you know that the first playground was designed and built in Manchester, Uk? The students completed a Design and Technology booklet with plans, materials to be used and how certain aspects would move.

Today, the students had an amazing time making their playgrounds. They were so creative. It was good to see the students use their designs to build their models, change their ideas and evaluate the completed product. They are now displayed in the wet area of block 3. Come and have a look.
