Easter Hats

Room 26 have been working hard planning and designing Easter Hats. Planning is a very important part of the process. The students had a variety of materials to choose from and had to demonstrate their creativity in their designs. Their drawings were clearly labelled and were carefully used during the making process. Have a look at the finished designs. The students will be evaluating their work in the next couple of days.

Congratulations to Connor and Teagan who were our winners. They each received a book prize and everybody was given a small egg!

Don't forget that school will be closed for the long Easter weekend. The last day will be Thursday and will reopen next Wednesday 4th April. Have a wonderful Easter weekend.

I would also like to welcome Oliver to Room 26, who has arrived recently from England. We wish his family all the best in their new lives in Australia.

Harmony Day

21 March Harmony Day

Harmony Day is a day to celebrate Australian multiculturalism, based on the successful integration of migrants into our community.
Australia is the most successful multicultural country on earth and we should celebrate this and work to maintain it.
Harmony Day is about inclusiveness, respect and belonging for all Australians, regardless of cultural or linguistic background, united by a set of core Australian values.
Wednesday was a fantastic celebration of the diverse cultures here at Wattle Grove. We enjoyed a display of traditional costumes, music, dance and food.
Thank you to all the families who supported their child during this special occasion. Everybody looked amazing.

What has been happening in Room 26?

We have had a busy couple of weeks in Room 26. We managed to complete all our 'Talk to Teach' presentations. These were fantastic and the children must be congratulated on their hard work. We had a variety of talents being shared. We have now discussed the rubric and have set clear goals for next time we take part in a Speaking and Listening task. This might be making eye contact, giving clear instructions or changing the tone of voice to engage the listener. Thank you to all parents for your support.

Science

Room 26 have also been investigating what specific requirements seeds need to help them grow. We watched a video and discussed what we already knew about this topic. We decided to try and grow broad beans. We took part in an investigation to see if the bean could develop and grow by just placing it on a paper towel and adding water. A lot of us predicted that the bean would not grow as it needs soil. After 2 weeks of adding water and exposing them to sunlight, we made our observations. We were surprised with the results. Some of the seeds had not changed much but the bean had turned a darker brown and the paper towel smelt terrible. Some of our beans had grown roots but nothing else. A couple of the beans had changed dramatically. They had roots and the shoots had grown up to 15cm tall. We talked about why these things might have happened. Had we done something differently to other students? Was it a fair test? This is what makes Science interesting and fun. Results are never the same. We have now replanted the beans into soil to see if this has an effect on their growth over the next week or two. We look forward to keeping you updated with our results and conclusion.

Tejas was happy with his results. Imagine what will happen when it is planted in soil!!

Literacy Pro

Congratulations to everyone who has made a fantastic start to Literacy Pro 2018. This is a wonderful program to help promote and encourage reading within the school. The students have all completed their online test and now have their current Lexile Level. Please encourage your child to read and complete quizzes regularly at home.

Here are our current results:

Average Quiz Score:                86%
Number of Quizzes Taken:      268
Number of Words Read:         492,131

Congratulations to Elisha and Joan who have both read over 100,000 words each. Keep it up girls.

We aim to reach 2,000,000 by the end of Term 1.

We can do it.

ICT

The students of Room 26 have been enjoying using the school laptops to demonstrate and learn a variety of skills. We have been creating our own power points to share in class, learning keyboard and typing skills and even using coding to create games.

Talk to Teach

The students have been taking part in Speaking and Listening presentations this week. We had a great start today where a selection of students explained how to make or complete a task. We were shown how to make bath salts, traffic light drinks, how to speak a new language and how to prepare fairy bread. All students had planned and prepared their presentation carefully at home. I would like to say a huge thank you to all the parents for your support with this activity. I can't wait for the next group tomorrow.
