Science Investigation

Ms Hodge, an Agricultural Scientist,  visited Room 9 again on Wednesday morning. We had prepared our investigations to see what might affect the growth of plants.

We have split into 4 groups, each with a different aim.

One group will be looking at the affect of the amount of light given to the plants. The second group will be looking at whether the amount of water will change the growth of the plant. The third group will be investigating the varieties of soil and how they may increase the growth rate of the plant. The final group will be looking at how worms may help or hinder the growth of their plants.

It will be interesting for us to observe the changes over the coming weeks and keep recordings of the results. We will be able to demonstrate a sense of responsibility to ensure our investigations are fair and accurate.

We will be taking photos and creating graphs to compare what is happening to the spinach and lettuce which we are growing. If everything works out well, we look forward to the taste test at the end of the experiment.

This will be a great experience for our collaborative learning teams and we would like to thank Ms Hodge for sharing her expertise and advice. Also, thanks to Mr Sanderson for organising the event and for preparing the materials needed for each group.

100 Years of ANZAC

Wattle Grove Primary School commemorated 100 Years of ANZAC on Friday 24th April. It was a wonderful and poignant ceremony which reminded us of the sacrifices made by the ANZACs. All students demonstrated respect as they reflected on what ANZAC Day meant to them. The wreaths were beautiful, the speeches were outstanding and the choir sang two moving songs, 'Lest We Forget' and 'Flanders Fields'.

Thank you to Kati, Letisha, Emma and Dechlan for creating the wreath on behalf of Room 9.

Room 9 would like to thank Able Seaman Ryan Page who gave up his time to not only attend our ANZAC Day Ceremony, but also for visiting the class to talk about life on board HMAS Perth.

The students listened to stories of life in the Armed Forces and Able Seaman Ryan Page enjoyed answering some interesting questions from our class.

I would also like to thank Alyssa, Letisha, Kati, Izaak and Doyle who all played a significant role during the Ceremony.

Lest We Forget.

Welcome Back.

Welcome back to Term Two. I hope everybody had a wonderful break and enjoyable holiday.  This is going to be a busy term with lots of exciting events. We need to remember that the main focus is working hard and to a high standard. Year 5 have NAPLAN coming up in week 4. We have our ANZAC service at 9 am on Friday this week.

Homework
Please remember that all children must complete their homework neatly and on time. Homework went out today and is due in Friday. They have spellings to learn, Mental Maths, comprehension and word problems.

Reading
Check out the Scholastic Learning Zone on line, where your child can have a go at Lexile quizzes and complete diaries related to books read. This is a great way to improve comprehension skills.

Thanks again for your continued support. Hope to see you on Friday at the ANZAC service.
