We are coming towards the end of Year 4, I can't believe how fast the year has gone. I have enjoyed every minute. Room 26 have matured and grown as a class. I am so proud of every single student. They were well behaved during swimming lessons, have demonstrated wonderful manners during dancing and have continued to work hard in class with an excellent attitude. I will be going on Long Service Leave in week 10. I will be heading back to the UK to see my lovely family. My last day at Wattle Grove will be this Friday. I would like to say thank you for all your support this year, I have loved working with Year 4, you have amazing children. I wish you all a wonderful holiday and look forward to seeing you all back safely in 2019.

Happy Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is a national holiday celebrated on the 4th Thursday of November in Canada and the United States. It began as a day of giving thanks for the blessing of the harvest. It was celebrated by the Pilgrims after their first harvest in the New World in October 1621.

Room 26 celebrated by making their own Thanksgiving Turkeys and thinking of all the wonderful things they are thankful for.

Room 26 News

We have been extremely busy the last couple of weeks. Swimming started on Monday. The students have been doing a fantastic job so far and have set a wonderful example. The pool staff have already commented on how well behaved and well mannered the students are. Well done, room 26.

In Literacy we have been focussing on reading strategies. We have been developing our self questioning skills when reading a variety of texts. The students have been taking on the role of author and character to answer a variety of questions. The students had some amazing questions to gain a greater understanding of what the text was about and the perspective of the author and different characters.

The students have been taking on the role of teacher during Mathematics. We have been focusing on interpreting data. They had a variety of graphs and pie charts to create their own questions to ask the class. They even asked questions related to fractions and percentages of the data.

I have been very proud of them.

Congratulations to Paige and Tejas who made it to the semi finals of the Year 4 Super Scientist Presentations this week. Everybody did a fantastic job presenting their facts on their chosen Science topic.

Dancing will continue in weeks 8 and 9 and Dance Parties will take place in week 10. Letters will be coming out tomorrow with more details.

Please remember to return any library books by next week. Students can still take part in Literacy Pro quizzes until the end of term. We are almost at out target of 5,000,000 words.

Latest News

We have have such a busy term so far. I would like to thank everyone involved with the recent Arts Festival. It was a huge success. Some students in room 26 were involved in dancing and choir. The highlight of the evening was The Italian Play with two very special guests.

We have recently completed Year 5 NAPLAN testing to see what the students understand and what we need to develop further.  I was extremely proud of all students who did an outstanding job. Fingers crossed for next year.

We have recently been learning how to summarise in Literacy. We are now making connections with our Science (Earth and Space) by summarising information from the internet to create individual projects. The students are learning many skills, including time management, research skills, summarising and how to present their information to a high standard.

We continued to develop these skills further on Tuesday, when we met with our buddies in Room 30. They were researching information about Quendas. Room 26 were helping Room 30 with their ICT skills. They did a fantastic job. We always love supporting the younger students.

Next week (week 5) the students will be presenting their power points for Super Scientist Challenge. A timetable has been sent out early this week  and presentations will take place from Monday to Thursday. Please make sure you are well prepared. The top 2 students from each Year 4 class will compete in the final in week 6. Good luck everyone.

Humphreys Dance is going well and the students in Room 26 are beautifully behaved. Can't wait to see the final dances in week 10.

Our swimming sessions will be in weeks 7 and 8. Please ensure that all forms have been returned and payment made by early next week. We need a written letter from parents if students will not be taking part.

Please make sure that all students are continuing to complete their homework on time, learn their spellings and take part in Literacy Pro. It would also be beneficial to keep revising times tables, as these are important in a large amount of the Year 4 Maths program.

I will keep you posted with any other information over the next couple of weeks. The term is certainly going quickly.

Welcome back

Welcome back to our final term of the year. I can't believe we are here already. I have been so proud of the achievements made by all students in Room 26. We have an extremely busy term ahead. We will be working hard in preparation for NAPLAN next year. NAPLAN style questions will be included within all Literacy and Numeracy warm ups. It is important that all students continue to take part in regular reading at home, practise all times tables to help support many aspects of the Year 4 curriculum, and practise their weekly spelling words and their meaning. Remember that homework is given out on a Monday and due in on a Friday. Thank you to those students who are achieving amazing results in Literacy Pro. Keep reading everyone.

Please ensure your child is wearing the correct uniform and that long hair is tied back off the face. As the weather is improving, all students must have their hat for recess and lunch.

The students have settled back very quickly this week. I was very impressed with their attitude and work ethics during our Literacy rotations. I was pleased with the high standards of work. They are working very hard to achieve their pen license ready for Year 5.

Events coming up:

We have started Humphreys Dancing this week. Our lessons will be every Tuesday morning until week 9. It was great to see most students take part. I can't wait to see the finished product in the final weeks. Dancing is fun and amazing exercise for us all. I am certainly enjoying myself.

Swimming will commence in week 5. Lessons for Room 26 will begin in week 7. Letters will be sent out shortly.

Wattle Grove Art Festival will take place on Tuesday 23rd October from 4.30 - 6.30 pm. This will be a fantastic celebration of the Arts within our school. We certainly have a lot of talented students at Wattle Grove. Some students from Room 26 will be taking part in the Choir and Year 3/4 Dance. We look forward to seeing you there.

We would like to say farewell to Joan who moved to a new school during the holiday. We wish her and her family all the best for the future and will miss them greatly.

I will keep you posted of any other events taking place during the term. I look forward to working with you all again this term.

Learning Journey

I would like to say a big thank you to all the families who came to our Learning Journey today. This was a wonderful opportunity for you to celebrate your child's successes. All the students in Room 26 have worked extremely hard this year and you should be very proud of their achievements. The students enjoyed sharing the work they had completed, both in their books and around the classroom. I hope you enjoyed seeing the work the students have been doing in Year 4, they are certainly kept very busy. Congratulations to those parents who tried our Numero challenge, typing skills and coding. Thank you again for supporting us today and well done to Room 26 for all your efforts.
