What has been happening in Room 26?

We have had a busy couple of weeks in Room 26. We managed to complete all our 'Talk to Teach' presentations. These were fantastic and the children must be congratulated on their hard work. We had a variety of talents being shared. We have now discussed the rubric and have set clear goals for next time we take part in a Speaking and Listening task. This might be making eye contact, giving clear instructions or changing the tone of voice to engage the listener. Thank you to all parents for your support.

Science

Room 26 have also been investigating what specific requirements seeds need to help them grow. We watched a video and discussed what we already knew about this topic. We decided to try and grow broad beans. We took part in an investigation to see if the bean could develop and grow by just placing it on a paper towel and adding water. A lot of us predicted that the bean would not grow as it needs soil. After 2 weeks of adding water and exposing them to sunlight, we made our observations. We were surprised with the results. Some of the seeds had not changed much but the bean had turned a darker brown and the paper towel smelt terrible. Some of our beans had grown roots but nothing else. A couple of the beans had changed dramatically. They had roots and the shoots had grown up to 15cm tall. We talked about why these things might have happened. Had we done something differently to other students? Was it a fair test? This is what makes Science interesting and fun. Results are never the same. We have now replanted the beans into soil to see if this has an effect on their growth over the next week or two. We look forward to keeping you updated with our results and conclusion.

Tejas was happy with his results. Imagine what will happen when it is planted in soil!!
