Cross Country

Congratulations to all the students who took part in the Cross Country last Friday. It was wonderful to see the many faction colours racing around the oval. I was so proud of all the students who gave it their best to complete the track. Thank you to all the families who came along to support.

Book Week

Next week we will be celebrating Book Week. Students will be taking part in activities linked to the theme, 'find your treasure'. We will be meeting our Kindy buddies to share story books created by room 26. There will be a book parade held on the Friday. Please start thinking about which book character you will dress up as. I would appreciate it if the students can bring in copies of their favourite stories to share with the class. The students will also be taking part in a speaking and listening activity where they share their love of reading. They have been asked to prepare a 3 - 5 minute presentation talking about their favourite book, character or author. Students are asked to use cue cards to help with their presentation. No Power Points are to be used for this task. Their reports are due in on Monday and presentations will run during week 6. This is a week where we get to celebrate books and share our love of reading. I would like to see everyone taking part in Literacy Pro quizzes during this week. We are currently on just over 3, 100, 000 words. Congratulations. 

ICT Buddy lesson

Room 26 have paired up with the Year 1/2 students of room 30 to support them with their ICT skills. Miss Wright brought her students over today for the year 4 students to help with logging on, opening a word document, changing letter size, colour and font and adding borders and clip art. The first session went very well. This will now be a regular thing for the rest of the year. The students in room 26 were excellent leaders and I am sure the students in room 30 appreciated their support. 

Geography Projects

The students in Room 26 have been working on a mini project in their collaborative learning teams. Each group had to choose one of the 7 continents. They have been researching information from the internet and atlases. Each group have got to present information about population, countries, flags, culture, food, climate, landmarks and geographical features. The projects have helped the students develop their collaborative skills, build trust and respect for their peers and develop their knowledge and understanding of the continents of the world. The students have done an amazing job so far. They will each get to present their information boards to the class as part of their speaking and listening. These projects will also be displayed within our learning journeys in week 10. 

Plant Pot Competition

Mr Petch has organised a competition for the whole school to take part in. Every classroom has been given a plant pot to fill with beautiful plants and flowers. Each class should take care of their flower pot, helping to improve the appearance of the school environment. These will be judged in week 10. Thank you to our class councillors, Tegan and Tejas, for preparing our pot and watering the flowers daily. 

Latest News

I can't believe that we are already starting week 4! The time is flying by. We have lots of things happening over the coming weeks.

This Thursday will be the Australian Maths Competition. Good luck to those students who are taking part from Room 26.

All students will be taking part in some amazing investigations during Science Week (week 5). I am really looking forward to having some fun during this time.

ICAS Maths testing will also take place on Tuesday 14th August, please check to see if you signed your child up to take part.

On Friday 17th August, we will be taking part in our Cross Country. Everybody should start training early!!

Week 6 will be an extremely busy but exciting week. We will be celebrating Book Week, with a Dress Up Parade on the Friday morning. I would love it if students could bring in their favourite books to share during this week please. You could even bring in books written in a different language.

Our excursion to Scitech will take place on Wednesday 22nd August. Thank you to all those who have returned their forms and money so far.

I would also like to congratulate Tejas and Tegan who were nominated to be this Semester's Class Councillors. I know they will be amazing.

We will keep you updated with other events coming up.

Our main Science theme this term is all about materials, their properties and uses, and how materials can be changed. Please encourage your child to research information at home to answer any questions they may have. Students will be completing mini projects in class ready for the Learning Journeys in week 10.

Welcome back

Welcome back to Term 3. It is going to be a busy one. Everybody settled back quickly last week and I would like to congratulate all the students in Room 26 for their excellent behaviour and work ethics. 

We will be celebrating NAIDOC week this week and the students will be taking part in an incursion on Thursday. 

School photographs will be taken on Wednesday so please make sure you all look presentable. 

I would like to see all students take part in Literacy Pro Reading this term. This is a very important program and will help all children improve their reading comprehension. We are aiming for a goal of 5,000,000 words by the end of the term. Keep reading.

Congratulations to Tejas and Leo who received awards in assembly on Friday for being in the top 5 of the Year 4 level challenge. 

Homework and spelling words will continue to be given out on a Monday and due in every Friday.

Miss Agar and I are looking forward to working with you again this semester and look forward to a successful few months.

Importance of reading

I would like to invite all families from Room 26 to join us in a Reading Family Fun Night. This will be held on Tuesday 26th June from 4.20 - 5.45pm. We would like to celebrate the importance of reading and comprehension at home. Families will take part in 4 rotation activities which they can do at home. Each family will receive a goody bag with reading resources and there is a chance to win Book Prizes. Please return your slip this week. Hope to see you there. 

Super Scientist continued

Congratulations to everyone for taking part in our Super Scientist Challenge. The children spoke clearly and confidently and taught us many new Science concepts. Well done to Tejas and Tegan who represented Room 26 in the Year 4 final.
