Super Science Challenge

Dear Parent/Guardian,

We will be carrying out a ‘Science Superstar’ challenge this term. All students from Year 1 – 6 are to research and deliver an investigation/presentation based on any Science concept. There are plenty of ideas for quick experiments on the internet and in Science books. Please let me know asap if you do not have any ideas. When determining the winner, we are not just looking at students who have a visually ‘cool’ science experiment, although that can be one factor.

We are trying to find those students who:

•       Clearly understand the science behind their experiment and can explain it clearly and in some detail – perhaps they include some additional background information

•       Make a real attempt to engage the audience and display some enthusiasm/energy

•       Have obviously put in a lot of thought and effort into their presentation

The presentations will be held during weeks 4 and 5, in order to give us time to choose our finalists. Please see the timetable below. The finals will be held in the last week of term in the undercover area. All students must have the resources ready for the experiment. If there is anything you require, please let us know by the end of this week so we can try to arrange the relevant resources.

To be considered as a potential year level winner, each presentation must come in under six minutes.

·       It helps students to deepen their understanding of fundamental science concepts.

·       It gives students an authentic purpose for learning the science concepts you are teaching.

·       It is engaging – the students really enjoy the process and it raises the profile of science.

·       It allows teachers the opportunity to gauge students’ conceptual understandings and oral language skills.

Meet Miss Preston

My name is Miss Preston

I am a Pre-Service Teacher currently in my final year of my Bachelor in Primary Education degree at Edith Cowan University. I have been lucky enough to have been placed at Wattle Grove Primary School for the second time in my degree. I have the privilege of working alongside the wonderful Mrs McIlwraith in Term Two. I am looking forward to a fantastic term with the brilliant pupils of Room 26. I consider myself to be an adaptable, confident and passionate teacher who wants to make a lasting positive difference in students' lives. My teaching practice is based on a combination of explicit teaching and student-centred learning strategies. I pride myself on the ability to create and maintain positive learning environments for all my students. As I feel strongly about inclusion and respect, I will incorporate and encourage these values in all aspects of my classroom teaching. If you see me around the classroom or the school, please feel welcome to come up and introduce yourself!

Hope all the mums had a wonderful weekend last week. The students produced some beautiful gifts for the special person in their life. 

Science Projects

Room 26 completed their Biological Science Inquiry with presentations and Dioramas. All students worked really hard at home gathering facts and information about animals and plants within their environments. They had to explain how animals and plants adapt to survive in their surroundings. Congratulations to everybody and thank you to the parents for al your support at home.
