Science

The children of Room 11 have been testing the absorbency of a variety of paper towels. They had 3 different brands and made their observations and predictions first. Each pair tried a variety of investigations to test which would be the best brand to buy. Sometimes it is worth paying a bit extra to get the better quality.

Assembly

Room 11 had a lot to be happy about after today's assembly.

Congratulations to Keagan, Latish and Kate who all received merit certificates for working hard over the last few weeks.

Joshua, Aaryan, Ali, James, Daniel and Sabbir have been reading many books and passing lots of Literacy Pro Quizzes. What a huge achievement.

Room 11 were so proud today when they won 3 class awards. The first award was the Literacy Pro Champs for making most progress since the last assembly. The second award was the School Board Uniform Award. Thank you to all the parents who ensure the students come to school in the correct uniform. The final award was the Music Award. What a talented group of students we have in our class.

Goos Job! Awesome!

Don't forget that the spelling test will be on Monday along with your homework.

You still have time to send in your Lapathon money.

Have a great weekend.

Materials

Things to do at home.

You could think about items at home or in the classroom.

Materials (1)
Materials are the things that objects are made from. Materials can be in one of two groups.
1. Man-made- e.g. glass, plastic.
2. Natural- e.g. sand, wood, leaves.

Our classroom contains different materials:- Try to think of 10 examples for each!
1. Wood e.g. desk 2. glass
3. rubber
4. metal

5. plastic
6. fabric
7. paper
8. plaster

Now for each category, try to think of adjectives that give lots of extra information.
E.g.
1. wood- hard, strong, grained, polished 2. glass- clear, strong, cold
3. rubber-
4. metal-
5. plastic-
6. fabric-
7. paper-
8. plaster-

Buddy Class

We enjoyed some time with our buddies from Room 9 this afternoon. We showed the children what we have been learning about in Science and even challenged them to a game of Numero. It was great to catch up with our friends. We look forward to their next visit.

NAIDOC Incursion

On Friday 5th August we had our NAIDOC incursion. Mr T was kind and generous, he gave up his own time to come and talk to us all about his wonderful and interesting culture. He really inspired us with his stories and songs.
Thank you Mr T
From Latiesha Room 11

Mr T told us how they look after nature. He told us that we all have a totem, the sparkle in our eye. We sang songs, played games and listened to amazing stories about how they look after trees, birds, crawling things, plants and jumping things. We had to find 3 friends and place a painted dot on their hand to show that we would be friends forever. I learnt so much.
Thank you.
From Halle Room 11

Class Dojos

Congratulations to Naveed, Dylan, Samo, Paige and James who all achieved their next class Dojo Award. They have been working on the school value of 'Excellence'.

Maths Games

Room 11 have been designing and making games in their collaborative learning teams. They have been learning how to tell the time and complete word problems within their daily Mathematics lessons. In order to apply what they have learnt, each group have been creating a board game which helps support and develop these skills. It has been a wonderful learning experience for each group, incorporating English, Mathematics and Design and Technology. The teams have had to learn how to make decisions, come to an agreement and share the work load. We are now looking forward to playing the games during our rotation activities.

Rally Coach

The children of Room 11 have been coaching one another during our daily maths sessions. They use whiteboards to explain how to solve problems to their partner. They are doing a great job.

Science

We have started our new unit of inquiry in Science this term. We are learning all about the different properties and uses of materials. It was great to explore a variety of materials in our collaboration groups last week. Some of us came up with some interesting questions.

Our Central Idea is:
Natural and processed materials have a range of physical properties which can influence their use.

Remember to keep asking questions at home. Room 11 are starting an 'Action Book', where we want the children to take action at home. Bring in items from the newspapers or internet linked to materials. Have a go at an investigation and take photos of the outcomes. I can't wait to see what you have learnt at home.

Science is so much fun!
