Creating Rainbows

Room 9 enjoyed taking part in a science activity today. The only materials they used were a glass of water, piece of paper and a light source. Using the sunlight and torches, the students were able to make their own rainbows. Rainbows are caused by reflection, refraction and dispersion of light in water droplets resulting in a spectrum of light appearing in the sky.

We gained excellent results using the sun as a light source. Colours of the rainbow were created when the light source travelled through the glass of water, refracting the beam of light causing it to separate  into the colours.

Why don't you have a go yourself at home.

Year Level Challenge

Congratulations to Audrita who made most progress in the Year 5 Challenge last term. Lucy, Avinash, Dillon and Amro all made it into the top 5, gaining an amazing 100% on their test. What a fantastic achievement.

Izaak made most progress in the Year 6 Challenge. Well done to those students and good luck in Term 4. Keep revising your study notes ready for Week 9.

Welcome Back

Welcome back to Term 4. I hope everyone had a relaxing break and are ready to work hard. I can't believe we are almost at the end of the year. Last term was a wonderful one with many major events taking place. Don't think that we have time to sit back and relax this term, as it is just as busy, packed with many exciting events.

Upcoming events:

Centenary Fete and Reunion - Sunday 1st November. This is going to be a huge event in the school's history. I hope everyone will be able to attend and support our 100 Years Celebration. There will be many stalls, activities and games for you to enjoy. The Fete will be held from 11am - 4pm. Room 9 have been asked to bring in any second hand goods (in good condition please) for our stall. Start searching at home as I am sure you will have many unwanted items such as clothing, toys, games or books. Please start sending them in. Every family has also been sent a book of raffle tickets. There are some great prizes to be won. Tickets are $2 each. Send all money and unsold tickets/books back to school by Friday 23rd October. Good Luck.

Edu Dance/Humphreys Dance - This started today and the students enjoyed themselves rehearsing a few new moves. Thank you to all those who have returned their forms and money. Please send these in asap if you haven't done so already. Look forward to seeing the results at Graduation.

Camp - Year 6 are looking forward to camp in week 5. All forms must be completed and returned to Mrs Lavery or Mr Sherlock straight away as they need to inform camp of any allergies and activities to be undertaken.

News:

Portfolios - Year 6 need to have their portfolios in by Monday 19th October. Please make sure all work has been printed, letters signed and certificates are in. We will be reviewing these next week to make sure they are in perfect condition. We will then be choosing the top portfolios to be sent to Ms Roberts ready for an interview. I have been very impressed with how hard the students have been working. I would also like to congratulate Year 5 students who have made an excellent start ready for next year.

History Projects - These are due in on Monday 19th October. I am looking forward to seeing the presentations about famous Historical Australian Figures.

School Uniform - Please ensure that your child attends school wearing the correct uniform. No jewellery, except sleepers, black or white shoes and socks and long hair must be tied up. All students must be wearing a hat, it is getting quite hot at the moment and all students need to be protected.

Absences - Please make sure that you either send a note or phone school to let us know the reason for your child's absence.

I will keep you updated throughout the term as there are many other events taking place. Enjoy your weekend.
